The Sixth Amendment and various state laws guarantee a defendant’s right to a speedy trial. Many defendants, particularly those who are waiting in jail, want to enforce this right. But lawyers frequently advise their clients to “waive time”—that is, to agree to the proceedings moving slower than state law provides.
What does it mean when a case is waived?
The defendant can “waive” the right to a speedy trial (called a waiver or “waives time”). This means s/he agrees to have the trial after the 60-day period. If the defendant is found guilty, the case will be continued for sentencing, or the defendant may be sentenced right away.
What are considered federal crimes?
Crimes that are punishable under federal law include the following:
- Piracy.
- Treason.
- Counterfeiting.
- Drug trafficking.
- Violations of securities laws.
- Violations of interstate commerce.
What if my fee waiver is denied?
If your fee waiver is denied, you have 10 days from the date the order is mailed or personally delivered to you to: Pay your fees, or. Do what the court ordered in the fee waiver order, like filing a new fee waiver request or providing additional information requested by the court.
How much time do you serve on a 10 year federal sentence?
For sentences of twelve months and one day or longer, a client is eligible for good time credit of up to 15 percent, as long as there have been no disciplinary problems. This means that on a ten year sentence, for example, a client will serve eight and one-half years.
How long does it take for the feds to indict you?

What is the sentence for a federal crime?

To be considered for the application fee waiver, you must be:
- An undergraduate student (you cannot be in an extension program)
- A California resident for more than one year.
- A U.S. citizen or someone without lawful immigration status who qualifies for an AB540 non-resident tuition exception.
How long does a fee waiver last?
60 days
Remember: You must sign your request for a fee waiver under penalty of perjury. So, on your forms, you must tell the truth, and your answers must be accurate and complete. Fee waivers expire 60 days after your case is finished, either by a judgment, a dismissal, or in some other way.
